Minister for National Security and Home Affairs Rayburn Blackmoore looks forward to an increased police presence in communities across Dominica, when 53 new police recruits complete training.

In a statement Wednesday, Blackmoore said the recruits took an oath of office earlier this week, and now head to 6 months of training.

According Blackmoore, the recruitment of new police officers is in line with Government’s decision to increase Dominica’s police force to 600 officers.

The Minister stressed the need for officers to be “more visible and vigilant” in their communities, and highlighted Government’s efforts in developing the community policing platform.

He cited Government’s “reasonable expectation” that an increase in police officers will result in greater police presence and more efficient service to the nation.

Meantime, President of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) Jefferson Drigo said word of new recruits was “a beautiful moment” for police officers.

Drigo commended Government for drafting officers at a “critical time” for the force, and encouraged the recruits to do their best during training.
