Dominican student Annika Bellot of Morne Daniel has been granted the prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship.
Bellot joins 14 other students from 6 Caribbean Islands, who have been approved for the fully-funded 1-year postgraduate program.
They were chosen from a pool of 64,000 applicants from over 100 countries.
Ms. Bellot told DBS News she hopes to use her study focus to raise awareness of the effect of climate change on developing countries.
She will be pursuing a Master of Law LLM degree in Environmental Law, Policy, and Governance at the Birkbeck University of London.
The program really deals with the effect of climate change on indigenous people.
Bellot said she chose to pursue this degree based on her experiences with tropical cyclones in the last few years.
She added, she wants to bring more awareness and create more agreements in relation to environmental law within the region.
