Attorney Joshua Francis says the nomination by the Prime Minister of Dominica of Mrs Sylvannie Burton to serve as President is a significant one and one which he supports.
Francis says he congratulates mrs Burton , the first female and first Kalinago person who will serve as President of Dominica.
Francis says he joins thousands of Dominicans who celebrate the advancement of the status of women and girls and who rejoice in the accomplishment of yet another female leader. He says mrs Burtons nomination to be president is a testament to the fact that barriers are being broken ,hence paving the way for women and girls to ascend to any office.
He notes that as a Kalinago women in public service , her nomination is a historic choice for the highest office of the land and her rise to the Presidency will be the culmination of historic efforts by women , while representing the striking progress of the Kalinago people.
