Former West Indies cricket selector, Lockhart Sebastien, says young Dominican and West Indies batsman, Alick Athanaze has not yet made a significant impact in T20 cricket, despite posting statistics over the past year that are comparable to those of Johnson Charles.
Sebastien made the comments while weighing in on recent selection discussions with DBS Sports, noting that while Alick’s numbers suggest he could have been considered for selection, his overall influence in the shortest format of the game has been limited.
Sebastien pointed out that T20 cricket demands not only consistency but also the ability to dominate key phases of an innings, something he believes Athanaze is still working to establish at the international level.
In the meantime, Sebastien also issued a clear message to West Indies players as they prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
