Roseau, Dominica (May 19, 2017) — The beauty of one of Dominica’s most historic landmarks will be restored and admired for generations to come, thanks to contributions from private sector construction firms, contractors, corporate individuals, skilled workers, tradesmen and friends of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).
The initiative, which is the brainchild of the party, will ensure that the Botanical Gardens’ road rehabilitation is a success.
Leader of the DLP, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, affirmed his party’s commitment to the venture, stating, “As party leader I believe that we all must play our part in building this country and it should not all be left to the government. I encourage citizens of Dominica to come out and play their part in upgrading this distinctive and historic landmark.”
The DLP recognizes the importance of this initiative and the effects it will have on the daily life and safety of persons traversing the Roseau area, via ‘The Gardens’. With this, we hope to be bolstered by the additional voluntary support from citizens of Dominica as we seek to swiftly complete this initiative.
“These improvements will hopefully enable more people to better understand and appreciate the remarkable beauty and history of these gardens,” Minister for Tourism and Urban Renewal, Senator Robert Tonge, said. “I am humbled to be a part of restoring and preserving this iconic park for future generations.”
The project is valued at EC$369,000.00 and will commence at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 in the Botanical Gardens. Business groups, church groups, civil organizations, school clubs and individuals who are willing to volunteer, are all welcome to take part in this event.
