Dominica’s first COVID 19 related death is a 46- year- old woman
Health Minister Dr. Irving Mc Intrye made the announcement this afternoon.
“We regret to announce that Dominica has recorded its first covid-19 related death the 46-year-old female with preexisting medical conditions was admitted to the COVID isolation unit on August 14th and passed away August 17th, 2021.”
The government of Dominica extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased our thought and prayers are with the family at this time.
Meantime, in a statement, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said he is deeply sorry for her loss. “My family and I offer deepest condolences to her family and close friends as they come to terms with this deep and shocking loss”, the prime minister stated.
He added Dominica grieves with the family. The prime minister said he pledges his support and that of the government and people of Dominica to the family during their time of bereavement and wishes them God’s comfort.
The Dominica leader noted that the passing of the individual presents an opportunity for national reflection and reminds us of the need to practice all safety protocols recommended by health officials to protect ourselves and the most vulnerable and at-risk among us.
He said Dominicans must all work together to prevent further spread of the disease to safeguard the collective health of the nation.
Meantime, Dominican- born scientist Dr. Swinburn Augustine said the first COVID-related death is a wake-up call for Dominica.
He said, however, there is no need for panic.
