Dominica, France Discuss Extradition Treaty

France is in discussions with Dominica towards the signing of an extradition treaty between both countries.

French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve made the announcement during a three day visit to Guadeloupe over the weekend.

He said Dominicans and other persons of other nationalities who commit crimes in Guadeloupe should not be able to escape French justice by fleeing to their country to seek refuge, but should be repatriated to France to face the justice system for trial.

The Prefect of Guadeloupe, Jacques Billiant is the one in charge of the discussions on behalf of the French Government.

Since the beginning of the year, 29 persons have been killed violently in Guadeloupe.
