The 39th anniversary of Independence has been launched under the theme, Building a Brighter Future Together.
On November 3rd, 1978, Dominica gained its independence from Great Britain and became an independent republic within the Commonwealth.
Every year, the country commemorates it’s Independence with a season of cultural activities celebrating unique heritage and Creole culture with colourful events such as Heritage Day, Creole Day, the Miss Wob Dwiyet Pageant, the Ti Matador Competition, Market Day with a difference and more.
This year’s activities run from September 16 to November 4.
Meantime, Minister for Culture Justina Charles has called on Dominicans to put aside their differences and unite to build Dominica.
Dominica history Week from October 2- 6, National Emblem Week, Creole in the north from October 19-21, Heritage Day in Scottshead on October 22 and Shop Dominica on October 26-28 are among the activities for the 39th anniversary of Independence.
