Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit during his budget presentation announced that a child care and adoption bill is to be taken to parliament this year.

The country’s leader said that the bill will allow the court to have greater latitude in our children’s overall care and protection.

He also announced that the government will restructure the welfare division this fiscal year to better respond to present-day challenges.

Additional child protection officers, a clinical psychologist, and a counselor in the child abuse unit will also be engaged under the new structure which is to be instituted.

“This increase in staff, we hope will help curb and eliminate the incident of abuse of our children, we recognize too that this is a societal problem and would require a societal responsibility and we hope that the additional resources will help the ministry bring an end to child abuse in our country.” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said.
