Dominica Leading the Way with New 911 Emergency System

Chairman of the National Telecoms Regulatory Commission, NTRC Curtis Winston says the sub-region will be looking at Dominica with the launch of the new 911 Emergency system.

Winston says the launch of the system is an achievement for Dominica.

The Emergency Response Centre, which will operate the 911 number, was commissioned on Friday 16 September 2016 by Minister for Telecommunications, Science and Technology, Kelver Darroux.

Five stations are manned with a 911 response operator, in addition to police and fire stations to allow them to have visibility and information on all emergencies regardless of the location of that emergency.

$1.8M was approved by the NTRC through the use of the Universal Service Fund for the establishment of the 911 Emergency Response Center.
