Construction of a domestic geothermal energy plant could begin in 2017.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told the nation on Independence Day, Dominica has passed the necessary legislation in Parliament to facilitate development of the geothermal resource.
At the National Independence Rally, Prime Minister also made mention of a $26.7M agreement signed with the European Union for climate change resilience in the agricultural sector.
Meantime, he reiterated a call for Dominicans at all levels to become more passionate about their country.
