Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says Dominica is increasing its testing capacity in light of an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The government is procuring additional tests, expanding testing facilities across the island, and training additional staff to assist with the testing.
The Prime Minister made the remarks on Kairi FM’s Heng on Friday.
“We are increasing our testing capacities we have all of the necessary supplies in terms of antigen test and PCR test to manage for the next several days.”
Mr. Skerrit told the program that the country will receive about 20,000 antigen tests and 10,000 PCR test kits from the Chinese government.
He also stated that he has authorized the redirecting of staff from the secondary and territory centers and hospitals in primary health care.
He further stated that more people are to be trained to perform the test.
“I have met personally along with the minister and the health department, the chief medical officer, the chief epidemiologist, the director of primary health care to discuss what they need specifically.”
The Prime Minister also added that changes have been made to the St James facility in Portsmouth to better accommodate patients in quarantine.
