It was a tough start for Dominica’s National Under-17 Women’s Football Team as they were soundly defeated in their opening Group A match of the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Qualifiers, currently being played in Nicaragua.
Dominica went down 7–0 to the Dominican Republic, who took early control of the match and never looked threatened throughout the encounter.
The Dominican Republic opened the scoring in the 8th minute and maintained dominance for the remainder of the game. Jabes Martínez, Caelyn Jiménez and Giocarla Durán each netted two goals, while Blair Vera added one to complete the rout.
In the other Group A fixture, host nation Nicaragua also recorded a convincing victory, defeating Belize 6–0.
Dominica will be looking to bounce back when they return to action later tonight, as they face host country Nicaragua in their second Group A match.
