Overseas-based twin athletes Gabriel Lamar and Luke Lamar are hoping to secure their places at the upcoming CARIFTA Games as they compete in the final qualifying meet in Martinique this weekend.
Gabriel Lamar, who specializes in the 400 metres, and his brother Luke Lamar, a 400 metre hurdler, are among several Dominican athletes making a final push to achieve the qualifying standards for the regional junior championships.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Gabriel Lamar said he plans to give his best effort as he looks to secure qualification.

Meanwhile, his brother, 400 metre hurdler Luke Lamar acknowledged that the competition will be challenging but expressed confidence heading into the event.

In the meantime, President of the Dominica Athletics Association, Brendan Williams, says the number of athletes already qualifying for the CARIFTA Games is encouraging.
He noted that so far 12 Dominican athletes have met the qualifying standards, describing the achievement as a positive sign for athletics development in Dominica.

The final qualifier in Martinique and Guadeloupe will provide one last opportunity for athletes to secure their spots before the 2026 CARIFTA Games in Grenada.
