Government Calls for Greater assistance for Hurricane Hit Haiti and Bahamas

A call to Dominicans to assist the people of Haiti and Bahamas who were badly affected by hurricane Mathew this month.

The call came from Minister for Social Services Catherine Daniel during Heritage day activities in Mahaut on Sunday.

Minister Daniel represented Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Meantime , Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency ,Rayburn Blackmoore says the determination of the organizing committee for Heritage day made the event an exceptional one.

94 year old Philippa Christopher was named cultural elder 2O16.

11 individuals and three groups were recognized for their contribution to the development of Mahaut over the years.

Father Clement Jolly and Pastor Lyna Augustine for spiritual leadership and social service, Asinol John for fisheries and agriculture, the Benjamin family for culture, 1O6 year old Josephine Henry for agriculture and Lennox Alexander for music.

Others recognized were Dr Damien Dublin for Community Development, Emmanuel Mano Luke for culture, Mervin Thomas for sports, Annette Jno Charles Steadman for community leadership and businessman Philip Nassief.

The third Mahaut scout troop, Guide company and DOMINIC Save took awards on Heritage day in Mahaut.
