Government considering an extension to a curfew and other emergency measures which are ongoing in Dominica

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

The government is considering an extension to a curfew and other measures which are ongoing in Dominica to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said Dominicans must also play their part and accept their roles in the country’s fight against COVID-19.

“The issue of the extension of the emergency powers is under consideration up until the 17th in the first instance.”

The country leader stressed the importance of adhering to the covid-19 protocols and guidelines and asked citizens to remain home if they don’t have any business on the streets.

“It is in your interest and in that of your family to stay home.”

Mr. Skerrit said if we follow the protocols, then we will see a drop in the numbers and we will see an end to the spread.

“So how long we get out of this, rest with the Dominican people.”

He, further, stated that the government has been doing everything it has to do in terms of resources.

“Just last week I have procreated 8 million dollars to the Ministry of Health to deal with the crisis we are confronting right now.” said the Dominican leader.

He added, that this amount will be increased in the next few days.
