Tributes continue to pour in for the family and friends of the late Parliamentary Representative for Grandbay, Edward Registe.

The 50-year- old, who was also Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.

Edward Registe was a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and served as General Secretary of the Dominica Labour Party.

He successfully contested the Grand Bay seat for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in the 2019 General Election.

On DBS Radio Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the late MP will always be recalled for his commitment to the development of youth and community.

The Prime Minister noted his service to Dominica, as “a strong advocate for the little man” and “a stalwart at the Dominica Labour Party”.

Mr. Skerrit praised the late leader’s passionate spirit, remembering him warmly as “a big guy in stature, but very humble in his determination to making life better for people”.

The Labour Party and Grandbay constituency are in “total shock” at his passing, the Prime Minister said.

An official statement from the Office of the Prime Minister also recalled the MP’s service as former president of the National Youth Council, former Chairman of the Grandbay Village Council and current president of the Grandbay Credit Union.

“In the Cabinet we will honour Ed’s legacy by seeking to implement the many programmes and projects he proposed to improve the lives of his constituents,” the statement read.

Meantime his mother, Magdeline Registe, described her son as a charming and loving person.

She says she spoke to him Tuesday night from the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, after he was hospitalized that day.

“He left for work as usual,” she recalled, “then about 4:00 in the afternoon, I got a call saying he was hospitalized”.

She said he told her “Mummy, I don’t know what’s wrong, but I don’t feel so good”.

His mother described his passing as a sad situation for the family.

The late Edward “Ed” Registe has been described by many as an outstanding servant of the people, including the management and staff of DBS Radio.

He was an employee at the nation station for over 7 years.

The management and staff of DBS Radio express condolences to the family friends of the late Edward Registe. May his soul rest in peace.
