Head coach of the Women’s National Football Team, Ronnie Gustave, says there was little Dominica could have done to avoid their historic loss to Jamaica in their opening CONCACAF Women’s World Cup qualifier over the weekend.

Dominica suffered an 18–0 defeat on Saturday in St. Lucia, marking the largest margin of victory ever recorded by Jamaica in an international football match.

The heavy loss has also all but ended Dominica’s chances of advancing to the next round after just one game.

Coach Ronnie Gustave said: “Well, from what we have seen, the Jamaica team is very well structured. You can see they have a lot of experience, and I saw many professionals on that team. There wasn’t much we could have done in that game. We tried to contain the pressure they were bringing towards us, but the speed of their play was much faster. Their transitions were at a level we could not match. We were not moving as quickly as we wanted and were a little too stagnant. Many times, the Jamaican players were moving off the ball while we were still looking at them, watching them move into space, and unable to keep up them.”

Dominica will face Guyana in their next qualifier in February 2026.
