The Dominica Men’s Senior National Football Team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to St Martin in their opening match of the CONCACAF Series on Wednesday at the St Kitts and Nevis Football Association Technical Center.
Dominica started the game brightly but failed to convert their early chances. Striker Troy Jules saw his penalty saved, and the team missed several other opportunities in the first half.
Goalkeeper Jerome Burkard kept Dominica in the contest with a series of impressive saves to deny St Martin, and the teams went into halftime locked at 0-0.
After the break, Dominica came out strong, and Jules capitalized on a loose ball to give his side the lead. However, Dominica was unable to extend their advantage, squandering further chances to put the match away.
Their missed opportunities proved costly, as St Martin struck twice in the final ten minutes to secure a dramatic comeback victory.
Dominica will look to bounce back in their next match on Saturday, November 15, against Sint Maarten.
