Australia Women drew first blood in their three-match T20 International series against the West Indies Women with a convincing 43-run victory in St. Vincent on Thursday night, thanks to a commanding half-century from Beth Mooney.
Batting first, the Australians posted a competitive 164 for 6 from their 20 overs, with Mooney leading the charge with a well-played 79 at the top of the order.
For the West Indies, Deandra Dottin was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 35, while Chinelle Henry supported well with 2 for 28.
In response, the West Indies made a promising start to their chase of 165, reaching 76 for 2 and appearing well positioned midway through the innings. However, regular wickets stalled the momentum, and the hosts eventually closed on 121 for 6 from their allotted overs.
Qiana Joseph top-scored for the West Indies with 45, while veteran Stafanie Taylor added 28, but the target proved beyond reach as Australia secured a comfortable win.
The second T20 International in the three-match series is scheduled for Saturday.
