A new $200,000 dollar grant program has been announced for small farmers.

The Ministries of Agriculture and Social Services, Family and Gender Affairs in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Program will assist 12 groups comprising of 376 farmers.

The farmers were selected for their involvement in either vegetable production, root crops, bee keeping and fishing and will as part of the joint project obtain further support for their livelihoods through the rapid restoration of agricultural activities related incomes after the impact of Hurricane Maria.

This will be accomplished by empowering the groups to rehabilitate farms and fishing facilities to enable the quick resumption of their activities particularly in the area of crop production and bee keeping.

The assistance will be in the form of $555 dollars per farmer along with a donation of tools and equipment and a one day training.
