Interim principal of the University of the West Indies Open Campus Dr. Francis Severin said the time has come to expand the campuses of the University of the West Indies Open Campuses outside of the region.
Dr. Severin will become the first Dominican and the first male to take over the helm of the regional institution, effective August 01st, 2021.
In speaking to DBS news DR. Severin expounded on the need to increase access to the university.
He said he will spearhead efforts to increase the number of students entering the university from Ghana.
“Ghana has always been part of the family and we are moving more and more in that direction.”
He added, “We must also be aware that in terms of expanding the University of the West Indies, the Caribbean has become a small space and with the global competition we have to really go out there.”
He also made mention that the university under the vice-chancellor has really taken an international approach.
He added he is in full support of this.
