Cooperative Consultant Dr. Andre Vincent Henry of Trinidad, says despite the major role played by the credit union movement in the Dominican economy, weaknesses have been identified in the sector.
Dr. Henry and his team spearheaded a national consultation at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Tuesday, on a new policy for the cooperative sector in Dominica.
Dr. Henry says threats to the credit union movement and the cooperative sector were also identified.
He revealed that assets of the credit union movement in Dominica are about three hundred and forty-six million US dollars, with deposits at two hundred and ninety-two million dollars. Loans are at two hundred and six million dollars.
He says the assets of the credit unions exceed three fifths of the total Gross Domestic Product of the country.
