The body of former Minister for Foreign Affairs, the late Osborne Riviere will be laid to rest following an official funeral in Colihaut at 2pm today.
The late Osborne Riviere died in Martinique last month at the age of 85. Government has declared a day of mourning as a mark of respect for the late Osborne Riviere; flags are to be flown at half staff on all public buildings in the state.
The late Osborne Riviere who obtained a country scholarship was educated at the Dominica Grammar before he attained degrees at the University of the West-Indies and the University of Dublin.
Between 1996 to 2OOO he was appointed an opposition Senator in Parliament. He became an elected member of Parliament when he won the Caulihaut seat in 2OOO
He was appointed to act Prime Minister for a brief period following the death of Prime Minister Pierre Charles in 2OO4, before Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit assumed the position.
Riviere was appointed to serve as Minister for Foreign Affairs , Trade and Marketing from January 18, 2OOO to may 8 , 2OO5. He served in Parliament from August 28 1996 to 2nd January 2OOO, and February 2OOO to may 2OO5.
Official mourners at the funeral are expected to be President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin; Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Alix Boyd Knights Ministers of Government and Parliamentarians.
