Ahead of the new academic year, teachers have been advised to participate in online training.
The academic year is delayed due to an upsurge in COVID 19 cases.
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, Chandler Hyacinth said the ministry of education took the decision to re strategized the commencement of the 2021- 2022 academic year.
Hyacinth told DBS news the Ministry of Education is recommending a phased approach to face-to-face learning.
She further stated that phase one is the online engagement of teachers in professional development.
This entails training of teachers in online teaching and learning, preparation of lessons activities, videos, and games for online engagement and other staff development activities.
She said phase two which is from September 13th to October 1st the ministry is looking at the online engagement of form 5 students at all secondary schools.
Hyacinth added this could be subject to change based on a further review, which is to be done by the Ministry of Health on the covid-19 prevalence between communities.
She said the original plan for phase two is the involvement of both face-to-face and online learning.
