Director of the Pan American Health Organization PAHO Dr Carissa Etienne says society has a responsibility to make it easier for women to progress.

Her remarks came on the observance of International Women’s Day on Thursday under the theme ‘Push for Progress’.

Dr Etienne says the Day was a time to concentrate on women and how to make life better for them.

She says in Dominica women have taken full advantage of the education opportunity and Dr Etienne is also of the view that women have been afforded the opportunity to hold high office in Dominica.

The PAHO Director highlighted that the country has had a female Prime Minister in the person of the late Dame Eugenia Charles and that there are several female Ministers in the current Government.
