The Parliament of Dominica convenes tomorrow to elect a new President for the country.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has nominated senior public officer Sylvanie Burton of the Kalinago Territory to become Dominica’s next President on October 1, when His Excellency Charles Savarin leaves office.
Opposition leader Jesmar Paul Victor has not indicated publicly whether she will nominate anyone for President.
Parliament meets at 1O am on Tuesday to determine who will be Dominica’s new President.
Meantime, the Castle Bruce Constituency Labor Party Association says it stands in full support of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit’s nomination of Mrs Sylvanie Burton as the next President of Dominica.
The Constituency association states that Mrs Burton is a strong and ambitious, hardworking, intelligent and authentic Kalinago woman, and is certainly the best choice to hold the office of President in this current dispensation
The statement said this forward-thinking decision by Prime Minister Skerrit, not only signaled to every Dominican, and in fact everyone around the world, the love, respect and high regard that he has for citizens of the Kalinago Territory, but also shows the significance and importance he places on the contribution of women in Dominica.
The Constituency association noted that for them in the Castle Bruce Constituency, Mrs Burton is a sister, friend, lay associate, community worker and confidant and her many years of service to the people of the Castle Bruce Constituency as District Development officer has allowed her to build many trusting and lasting relationships with many.
The Constituency association says her level of professionalism is unmatched and her assiduous work has brought the realization of several development projects within the Castle Bruce Constituency and the entire east region.
The Constituency association thanks Prime Minister Skerrit for his insightful decision and pledges its support.
