Police officer Rennick Stephens of Portsmouth and 21-year-old Nyoka James of Marigot have been remanded in custody at Stockfarm Prison in connection with the death of 16-year-old Jerbiah Paul of Portsmouth.
They were this morning charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the death of Jerbiah Paul.
Stephens was charged for perverting the course of justice by sending messages to a police officer who was being investigated for the death of Jerbiah Paul.
He is due to return to court on November 16.
Nyoka James is accused of giving a false statement ON August 7 to a police officer who was investigating another officer in the Jerbiah Paul death, contrary to the laws of Dominica.
Defence counsel Zeena Dyer argued forcefully that Nyoka James committed no offence and the allegations against her are untruthful.
Dyer stated that the police have released no substantial evidence to prove their allegation.
She asked the magistrate to release her client and suggested that Nyoka James could report to the Marigot police every day if the court agrees.
Dyer said her client has never been accused of anything before the court in the past.
But Director of Prosecution Sherma Dalrymple said the matter is serious and if convicted, the accused could be given a jail sentence of 14 years.
She said giving a false statement to the police is a serious offence.
She added that the phones retrieved from the accused are with the RSS and need to be analysed, saying that granting her bail would interfere with the investigations.
After listening to arguments on both sides, the magistrate denied the granting of bail and set October 2 as the date NYOKA James will return to court.
Nyoka James is the fourth person to be charged in connection with the death of Jerbiah Paul.
The four people charged to date include three police officers.
The remains of Jerbiah Paul were discovered in a precipice in Capuchin two weeks ago.
