President of the Windward Islands Cricket Board, Clement Marcellin, has commended the Windward Islands women’s team for their impressive showing in the CWI Regional Super50 Over Tournament, describing their second-place finish as a significant improvement and a positive step forward.

The Windward Islands narrowly missed out on capturing the title, finishing just one point behind eventual champions Jamaica.

The team entered their final match on Saturday knowing that a win over Guyana would have secured the 2026 championship, but the decisive encounter went against them.

Batting first, the Windwards were bowled out for 97 runs in 35 overs. Dominica’s Earnisha Fontaine top-scored with 32, while Jannillea Glasgow contributed 22 and Afy Fletcher added 21. For Guyana, Ashmini Munisar was the standout bowler, claiming 4 for 21.

Guyana went on to reach 100 for 4 in the run chase. Shermaine Campbell top-scored with 26, while Afy Fletcher led the Windwards’ bowling with 2 for 23. Carena Noel and Jannillea Glasgow each took a wicket as Guyana secured a six-wicket victory.

Despite the loss, their first of the tournament, the Windward Islands ended the competition in second place with 20 points. Jamaica claimed the title with 21 points after defeating the Leeward Islands by eight wickets in their final match. Guyana finished third, followed by Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and the Leeward Islands.

Marcellin praised the team’s resilience and progress, noting that the runner-up finish represents a strong bounce back after placing last in the T20 Blaze Tournament earlier in the season.
