Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says it is extremely difficult to terminate an agreement with with the American company charged with the responsibility of registering ships under Dominica’s name.
The company, Dominica Maritime Registry Incorporation, which was established in October 1999 came into spotlight this week after the Reuters News Agency reported that a Dominican registered ship was involved in an alleged United Nations sanctions violation with North Korea.
The Prime Minister says the agreement signed by the UWP Administration would cost the Government millions of dollars to terminate.
Mr Skerrit says further that investigations are underway into the incident involving the Dominican registered ship last week.
