Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has held discussions with a technical delegation from the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), currently in Dominica to conduct preliminary assessments for the upcoming Northern Road Improvement Project.

The discussions took place on Monday, December 1, at the Office of the Prime Minister.

The large-scale rehabilitation initiative, financed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, is set to transform the major roadway from Portsmouth to Hatton Garden.

Planned works include the construction of new bridges and culverts, slope-stabilization measures, road widening, and the installation of retaining walls along vulnerable sections of the route.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the project stems from a commitment made by Chinese President Xi Jinping during Prime Minister Skerrit’s official visit to China last year.

Prime Minister Skerrit said in a Facebook post that the visiting Chinese team will continue on-site evaluations in the coming days as preparations advance toward the commencement of construction.
