Minister for National Security, Senator Rayburn Blackmoore has defended the new payment for child maintenance in Dominica.
A parent taken to court for child maintenance will now pay a minimum seventy-five dollars ($75.00) a week.
The Maintenance of Children Act was passed in Parliament on Tuesday.
Blackmoore says the new Act makes provision for maintenance money to be taken from the income of the offending parent.
