Shakan Stedman and Akiesha Luke have been named Male and Female Athletes of the Year by the Pioneers Athletic Club, following outstanding performances during the past athletics season.
The announcement was made on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at the club’s 10th annual awards ceremony, which recognized athletes across several age groups and disciplines for their achievements.
Male Athlete of the Year, Shakan Stedman, said the award was especially meaningful, noting the hard work and dedication he put into training throughout the year. He was also recognized as the Open Male Athlete of the Year.
Female Athlete of the Year, Akiesha Luke, expressed excitement and pride at receiving the honor, describing it as a reflection of her commitment and the strong support system around her.
Luke also captured the Top Under-20 Female award.
Several other athletes were recognized during the ceremony. Tashera Edmund received the Under-9 Female award, while Jayda Asiedu took the Under-11 Female title. Nyan Prince was named Top Sprinter in the Under-13 Female category, and Eden Nesty and Marley Asiedu earned top honors as Under-13 Female Distance Runners.
In the male categories, Jeremiah Rene was awarded Top Under-15 Male, while Keyoni Esprit and Bertina Carrette were named Top Under-17 Male and Female athletes, respectively.
Kemran Ferreira received the award for Distance, and Curvin Leatham captured Top Under-20 Male and Best Distance Runner honors, alongside Raedian Felix.
Meralda Thomas was named Open Female Athlete of the Year.
Additional awards included Most Improved Male, which went to Chinoah Beautreau; Best Sprinter Female to Curnita Mingo; and Best in Throws to Sanjay Laville and Justice Edwards.
President of the Pioneers Athletic Club, Cedric Harris, praised the athletes and described the recently concluded season as an outstanding one.
He noted that the club successfully achieved all of its objectives for the year and commended the athletes, coaches, and supporters for their dedication and hard work.
