South Africa produced a remarkable 30-run victory over India, successfully defending a modest target of 124 to secure their first win on Indian soil in 15 years.
Resuming their second innings with a shaky 63-run lead and only three wickets in hand, South Africa managed to reach 153, thanks to an unbeaten 55 from Temba Bavuma and a valuable 25 from Corbin Bosch.
Their efforts set India a target that proved far more challenging on a pitch offering sharp movement and uneven bounce.
India faltered in their chase, bowled out for 93.
Washington Sundar scored 31 and Axar Patel added 26, but no other batter was able to withstand the pressure.
Simon Harmer turned the match decisively with figures of 4 for 21, while Marco Jansen (2 for 15) and Keshav Maharaj (2 for 37) provided key support.
Earlier in the day, Ravindra Jadeja’s 4 for 50, along with Mohammed Siraj taking 2 wickets for just 2 runs and Kuldeep Yadav’s 2 for 30, had limited South Africa to 153 in their second innings.
Final scores: South Africa 159 and 153; India 189 and 93.
South Africa won by 30 runs and now lead the series 1-0.
