The Division of Fisheries has collaborated with experts from the University of Florida and the Japan International Cooperation Agency to assess the socioeconomic logistics of fishing in Dominica.
A survey is being conducted to assess the livelihood of fisher folk in Dominica.
Deputy Director of the Florida Sea Grant Programme at the University of Florida, Dr. Charles Sidmad says this survey will indicate if the training programmes and techniques offered by the Fisheries Division have improved the livelihood of offshore fishers.
However Dr. Sidmad says he is concerned over the issues of market expansion here on island.
Meantime, Local Facilitator, Acting fisheries Officer Derrick Theophille says the finding of the survey will reveal the importance of fishing to the Dominica’s economy.
