The Dominica China Friendship Hospital is aiming to vaccinate over 60% of its staff, following the launch of its COVID-19 vaccination drive on Monday.
CEO of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital Dr. Dexter James previously indicated 56% of Hospital staff are unvaccinated.
The drive is in collaboration with the Dominica Medical Association, the Dominica Nursing Association, the Dominica Public Workers Union, and the Pan American Health Organization.
Dr. James during the launch said, “Steps are being taken to have senior doctors and nurses administer the vaccines and lead the program.”
He added this is in an effort to get staff vaccinated at the hospital without the need to leave the premises to get vaccinated elsewhere.
Dr. James added, all unvaccinated inpatients and those coming through the accident and emergency department will also have the opportunity to get vaccinated.
Meantime, Hospital Medical Director Dr. Ruby Blanc highlighted steps taken to reduce COVID-19 spread at the facility.
She said, the staff is being trained in using PPE’S and they are expected to utilize them as they carry out their duties.
Staff was also advised to get tested urgently if they develop any symptoms of concern, in order for their covid-19 status to be determined and appropriate care to be initiated.
“We will give a deadline for all staff members who we don’t have a formal record to bring in their antigen test which will not be more than two weeks old and any persons who have fallen outside of that time frame is expected that they should get tested.”
Testing scheduled will be instituted every two weeks for all staff members.
