Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the late Sir Lester Bird will be remembered for his contribution to OECS integration.
Antigua and Barbuda’s second Prime Minister described as a great son of the soil died this morning at the age of 83.
The government of the people of Dominica extends condolences to the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda and the family of Sir Lester bird former prime minister who passed on Monday, August 9th, 2021.
Sir Lester was an Antiguan national hero and served as prime minister from 1994 to 2004 he also served as the first chairman of the organization of eastern Caribbean states.
Skerrit said may his contribution to the regional integration movement and Antigua and Barbuda’s economic development be long remembered and honored.
“Our prayers are with his loved ones and the people of Antigua and Barbuda may his soul rest in peace.”
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister said that all flags in the country will be flown at half-mast.
Bird will be accorded a state funeral.
Sir Lester served as prime minister from 1994-2004.
