UWP Incitement Case Carded for September 2023

A matter of incitement against former Opposition Leader Lennox Linton is set for the Magistrate’s Court on September 14, 2O23.

Mr. Linton was charged with incitement over statements he is alleged to have made during a meeting of the United Workers’ Party (UWP) in Roseau in 2O17.

After the meeting disturbances broke out in Roseau and several business places were damaged.

Magistrate Asquith Riviere who had conduct of the matter in court has since retired, forcing delays.

Mr. Linton who is represented by Attorney Gildon Richards made an appearance in court this morning and will return on September 14.

Former Prime Minister Edison James and leader of the UWP Dr. Thompson Fontaine, are also charged with incitement relating to the UWP meeting in Roseau in 2O17.

Dr. Fontaine who appeared in court this morning, was due to return this afternoon.

The police are represented in the matter by three attorneys from Trinidad and Tobago including Senior Counsel Israel Khan and his son.
