W.I Suffered 2nd Defeat in 2023 ICC World Cup Qualifier

West Indies suffered their second consecutive defeat in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier, going down to the Netherlands in a super over thriller.

With both sides ending on 374 from their 50 overs, it was Logan van Beek who took center stage in Harare.

Having fallen to the final ball of the regular innings for a 14-ball 28 with just a single required, all-rounder van Beek struck three sixes and three fours from the super over bowled by Jason Holder.

Holder had earlier held a brilliant catch to dismiss van Beek and force the unlikely tie but the Dutchman then seized control, removing Johnson Charles and Romario Shepherd with consecutive balls following his fireworks with the bat to decide the outcome.

The Windies started strongly with the bat after being put in to bat posting 374 for 6.
Nicholas Pooran made 104, Brandon King 76 and Johnson Charles 54.
Saqib Zulfiqar took 2 for 43 and Bas de Leede 2 for 72.

In reply, the Netherlands were able to tie the West Indies with a score of 374 for 9.
Teja Nidamanuru led the scoring with 111 and Scott Edwards 67.

Roston Chase got 3 wickets for 77, Akeal Hosein 2 for 73 and Alzarri Joseph 2 for 73.
West Indies captain Shai Hope says while the defeat was unfortunate, it was a good game nonetheless.

Logan van Beek was named player of the match.
He posted 30 runs for the Netherlands in the super over hitting 3 sixes and 3 fours.
He then came back to bowl and took 2 wickets to lead the Netherlands to victory.

Captain of the Netherlands is Scott Edwards.
