The West Indies will begin their ICC T20 World Cup preparations with a warm-up match against Afghanistan on Wednesday, February 4th, as Head Coach Darren Sammy calls for improvements in the team’s batting approach.
Sammy says the Windies must do better at minimizing dot balls if they are to be serious contenders at the upcoming tournament.
He cautioned that the team cannot afford to be overly reliant on boundary hitting, stressing the importance of rotating the strike and building pressure through singles and twos.
According to the West Indies Head Coach, several international teams have evolved significantly in recent years, and the Windies must adapt to different match situations if they are to be competitive at the World Cup.
The warm-up encounter against Afghanistan commences at 5:30 AM Caribbean Time and will provide an early opportunity for the West Indies to fine-tune their approach ahead of the start of the tournament.
