Dominica’s Alick Athanaze has been named in the West Indies T20 and ODI teams for an upcoming series against Sri Lanka starting later this month in Sri Lanka.
There is also a recall to West Indies colors for opening batsman Evin Lewis after a decent run in the Republic Bank CPL.
Several senior players including Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein and Shimron Hetmyer have opted out of the tour for personal reasons.
The Windies T20 squad for the series reads: Rovman Powell (Captain), Roston Chase (Vice Captain), Fabian Allen, Alick Athanaze, Andre Fletcher, Terrance Hinds, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer.
The T20 series will begin on 13 October.
West Indies are heading into the T20 series with a Number 4 ranking.
Meantime, West Indies under 19 player Jewel Andrew has earned a maiden call up to the West Indies team as he could make his ODI debut against Sri Lanka.
Jewel Andrew was one of the stand out players in the under 19 World Cup, and also had a decent run in the Pepublic Bank CPL.
The Windies ODI squad is: Shai Hope (Captain), Alzarri Joseph (Vice-Captain), Jewel Andrew, Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, and Hayden Walsh Jr.
The ODI series gets underway October 20th.
