Dominican Nurse Joanna Laurent-Blaize has received the Caribbean Nurses Organization (CNO) 2024 Honorary Award.
The award was presented at the 33rd Biennial Conference in Guyana on Friday 25th October, 2024.
According to a press release, the award is as a result of Nurse Laurent-Blaize’s dedication, innovation, and unwavering commitment to infection control and its practices within Dominica and across the region.
The release states that for the past twenty-six years of her career, Nurse Joanna Laurent-Blaize has made exceptional contributions as Dominica’s Infection Control Officer.
For a ten-year period, Nurse Laurent-Blaize served as an Infection Control and Clinical Care Nurse at the Infectious Disease Clinic.
The press release added that during the COVID-19 pandemic, Nurse Laurent-Blaize played a pivotal role, developing Standard Operative Procedures (SOP), structuring the St. James COVID -19 isolation unit in Portsmouth and at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
Nurse Laurent-Blaize has also served alongside PAHO consultants in the review of two IPC Neonatal documents in Uruguay, South America for use in their health institution.
