Dominica’s Earnisha Fontaine Breaks New Ground with WCPL Selection

National women’s cricket captain Earnisha Fontaine will make history as the first Dominican female cricketer to participate in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).

Fontaine has been drafted by the Trinbago Knight Riders for the upcoming tournament, which gets underway in Barbados in September.

Fontaine is a former West Indies under-19 wicket-keeper batter.

The Knight Riders will have West Indies player Karishma Ramharack as their heritage player, and the team will also feature the explosive Deandra Dottin.

Four teams are taking part in this year’s Women’s CPL: the Trinbago Knight Riders, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and the newly formed Jamaica Empress.

The Barbados Tridents will have Haley Matthews as their heritage player, and the team also features Qiana Joseph and Afy Fletcher.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors will have Shermaine Campbell as their heritage player, and the newcomers, Jamaica Empress, will have Chinelle Henry as theirs.

Their squad also includes Stafanie Taylor and Zaida James.

Each team will also be strengthened with overseas players, whose names will be announced in the coming weeks.
