Phillip Nassief, a prominent figure in Dominica’s economic and social landscape, passed away on Sunday, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy of entrepreneurship, generosity, and community spirit. Nassief was born on January 8th, 1933, in Roseau.
Phillip was not only a savvy entrepreneur but also a true humanitarian who took the initiative to uplift his community. He established a senior citizen’s home and provided support to small businesses through the National Development Foundation (NDFD).
He extended his philanthropic endeavors even further by creating the Elias Nassief Foundation, which is dedicated to helping those in need, especially the elderly. His commitment to development and ethics earned him several accolades, including the Dominica Award of Honor, the highest honor awarded in Dominica back in 1977.
In 2002, Caricom recognized him as one of the Caribbean’s foremost voices of the 20th century. Additionally, in 2004, the American Foundation of the University of the West Indies honored him as one of the luminaries of the past century who made an indelible impact on the Caribbean region and the world.
