Markram’s Unbeaten 82 Leads SA to 9-Wicket Win Over West Indies in Super Eight Group Stage

Aiden Markram’s 82 not out led South Africa to a nine-wicket victory over West Indies on Thursday morning.

West Indies batting first were in all sorts of trouble at 83/7 in 10.2 overs before they limped to 176/8 in their 20 overs.

Romario Shepherd scored 52 off 37 hitting four 6’s and three 4’s. Jason Holder was run out on 49 and Brandon King made 21 at the top of the order.

Bowling for South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 3/30 from 4 overs, Kagiso Rabada 2/22, and Corbin Bosch 2/31.

In their chase, South Africa’s captain, Aiden Markram, led from the front hitting an unbeaten 82 from 46 balls. He and Quinton De Kock put on 85 for the first wicket. De Kock scored 47 off 24 and Ryan Rickelton added 45 from 28, a second-wicket partnership of 82 with Markram.

South Africa finished on 177/1 in 16.1 overs to win by 9 wickets.

Aiden Markram was named the player of the match.

West Indies will face India in their next match in the Super 8 Group stage on Sunday.
