Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency Cassani Laville said the death of 26-year-old D’won Durand is a blow for his family and the community.
Durand succumbed to the injuries he sustained on Wednesday while operating a forklift at Portsmouth which turned over and trapped his upper body.
He was pronounced dead at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital in the evening.
In a Facebook post, the Mahaut MP said the loss of a constituent is always difficult, but the passing of someone so young and promising as D’won weighs especially heavy in his heart.
Laville stated D’won was a cornerstone of his family’s trucking business and was on the brink of creating something remarkable of his own, which was a testament to his years of dedication and determination.
He added that what really touched him was how their conversations were always centered around uplifting their community.
Laville said the death is a profound loss for them all in the community of Mahaut.
