Several Dominica women have been recognized by the Institute of Fire Engineers of the Caribbean and South America

The Institute of Fire Engineers of the Caribbean and South America has recognized several Dominica women during an International Women’s Day celebration and awards gala at Fort Young Hotel.

Among the awardees were Creole broadcaster Millia Joseph Dennis for culture and arts, Kina Prevost for community service, Thora Robinson for long service and Relda Andre for pioneering excellence.

The regional body also presented awards to Kathy Raymund for leadership, Jamima Mills for academic excellence and Kimara Mathew for entrepreneurship and innovation.

In service awards were presented to Kelita Grant (Fire) Courtney Joseph, Valda Powell and Antonio Moses (Police).

Special awards went to President of Dominica Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, Kalinago Chief Annette Sanford, Wayne Letang and Rose Peltier Lugay a distinguished public servant.

Kalinago Chief Annette Sanford who delivered the feature address, said women island wide must push for systemic change which will empower women and girls in the Caribbean.

Sanford told women not to allow failure to determine their destiny.
