The search is on for a new deputy leader for the United Workers Party

The search is on for a new deputy leader for the United Workers Party, as Senator Delbert Paris who was elected to the position a few months ago tendered his resignation with immediate effect on Monday.

Paris, who hails from Marigot, is a current opposition senator in the House of Assembly.

The immediate reasons behind the resignation are not clear.

Senator Paris made headlines in March when he supported the passage of the Electoral Reform Bills in Parliament while opposition forces were protesting near Parliament.

DBS News reached out to the former UWP deputy leader, and he confirmed his resignation saying that he informed the Party’s Leader Dr. Thompson Fontaine, the Party’s President and the General Secretary.

He said that an official statement would be forthcoming.

Paris was elected as UWP deputy leader in December 2024.

He had challenged the leadership of the Party but lost to Dr. Thomson Fontaine.

DBS News will continue to follow this developing story.
