Thea LaFond-Gadson Honoured with UWI Doctor of Laws Degree

Olympic gold medallist Thea LaFond-Gadson says she is honoured to be among the recipients of honorary degrees from the University of the West Indies (UWI).

LaFond-Gadson received an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) in recognition of her outstanding contribution to sport.

The Dominican triple jumper was among 13 honorary recipients selected for 2026, with the awards approved by the UWI Council. The ceremony was held in Antigua on Saturday.

LaFond-Gadson credited her late uncle, former Dominica president Dr. Nicholas J. O. Liverpool, for inspiring her journey.

The recognition adds to the growing list of honours for LaFond-Gadson, who made history by winning Olympic gold in the women’s triple jump at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
