5 retired teachers were awarded by the Dominica Association of Teachers during their World Teachers Day Rally in Dublanc on Friday.
They are June Smith Jno Baptiste of Salisbury who served for 42 years, Joyce Alexis Joseph of St. John’s Primary School who gave 39 years’ service, Jacqueline Royer Samuel taught at the Wills Strathmore Primary School for 35 years, and Phanuel Hilaire of the Petite Savanne Primary School who served for 38 years.
One teacher, Augustus Drigo of the Castle Bruce Secondary School received a Posthumous Award for his 35 years of service.
President of the Dominica Association of Teachers Mervin Alexander reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to ensuring that teachers receive permanent appointments.
